Position Purpose

The purpose of the apprenticeship is to prepare learners to operate independently and productively, ultimately becoming competent qualified artisans in their respective trades.

Position Outputs

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, learners will be able to:

Plan and prepare work sites, equipment, tools, consumables, and materials for trade-related activities and operations.
Use hand, power, and measuring tools effectively.
Install, assemble, fit, connect, and maintain electrical equipment and control systems.
Test, inspect, commission, and repair electrical equipment, control systems, installations, and assemblies.

Qualifications and Experience

To be eligible for the Transnet Apprenticeship Training Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

N2 Subjects: Electrical Trade Theory, Industrial Electronics, Engineering Science, Mathematics (Pure), Plating & Structural Drawing/Engineering Drawing (Draughting), Metal Worker’s Theory/Plater’s Theory, Diesel Trade Theory, Fitting & Machining, or
N3–N6 Subjects: Industrial Electronics, Mathematics (Pure), Engineering Science, Electrotechnology, Industrial Technology/Industrial Electronics, Plating & Structural Drawing/Engineering Drawing (Draughting), Mechano-Technology, Mechano-Technics, Electro-Technology/Electrotechnics, Fitting & Machining, or
NCV Level 4: Fundamentals; First Additional Language (English), Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation, Vocational Subjects; Electrical Principles & Practice, Workshop Practice, Electronic Control & Digital Electronics (Optional), Electrical Systems & Construction, Renewable Energy Technologies, Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Welding, Professional Engineering Practice, Automotive Repairs & Maintenance, Fitting & Turning, or
Technical Grade 12: Life Orientation, Mathematics (Pure), Electrical Technology, Physical Science, Engineering and Graphic Design, Home Language, First Additional Language, Mechanical Technology (Welding and Metal Work), Fitting and Machining, Mechanical Technology (Automotive).
Age: Between 18 and 35 years.
